Rochester, New York playwright Ned Bobkoff obtained stage adapation rights with funding from the New York Foundation for the Arts. A staged reading of the play will be produced at Towson University, Baltimore, Maryland on 7pm on Tuesday, March 31st.
“Ali and Nino” highlights the Romeo and Juliet romance between Ali Khan Shirvanshir, an intense, young Muslim patriot from Azerbaijan, and Nino Kapinini, a bright, witty Christian girl from Georgia. Their quest for enlightment, their breaking down barriers related to nationality, religion, gender and age, intensifies their relationship. Timely and relevant to the East/West crisis today, "Ali and Nino" uses multiple casting, fluid action, music, mime, puppetry, and dance to heighten its dramatic impact.
