I was just wondering about my subject matter for a new radio play I have started writing, (I have written 8 minutes which stand as a story going in the wrong direction about Cancer, where I have no particular true life story - some of the 8 minutes are very good, but I have to throw the story out).

I was wondering whether this is an interesting idea for a story.

I have a few pages of midnight ranting about sibling rivalry and death of one sister, and fear for the life of the second sister by suicide.

That much is true to life and pretty raw, I was thinking about interspersing it as V/O with some simple dialogue, then getting further into the plot of the play. I think I could write a play based my own family life, telling the story of this sister's full mental breakdown with extremely mixed up abuse memories of the father... not a story of incestuous rape but of ritual shaving (her whole body and head) and being taken to a house in Brixton, London where the father watched.

Much of my sister's story became very confused and the 'drama' would come out of the true fear for her suicidal tendencies, especially after they have already lost a sister... in the V/O.... leading on to the 'drama' of the impossible claims in the beginning of remembering lost memories of abuse and how mixed up that makes people.

Not easy listening on a Sunday afternoon, but is this a story you would be interested in listening to ever?

Would you say that there is a place for this plot in Radio?

Clouddog.

Whew! You've got enough in there to milk 5 plays out of it!

Seems to me you are over-thinking at this stage of the game and looking for approval on a play that does not exist yet.

I suggest get the first draft completed. or get ALL your ideas all your ideas down on paper - er -I mean into your computer.

Then you will have a clearer idea of the field you are playing on and might get more inspiration to CONSTRUCT the story you want to tell…or many stories thereafter.

Best,

IMR

Hi IMR

you're right, I probably can!

The email above is not clear. It is not clear what happened. I was trying to get that accross not sure if I did.

And again you're right I probably am asking for the thumbs up on something I've only just started and without posting it on SYW!

Just don't know how bleak they allow radio plays to be

ALL my ideas is definitely the best thing to get out on puter

Thanks for the encouragement

Spoonface Steinberg by Lee Hall was broadcast by BBC R4 to great acclaim and won major Awards

It's a 60 min monologue spoken by a 7 year old autistic girl who is dying from cancer and it's often very funny

It's not what you do, it's the way that you do it

Thanks

Worth considering
Few people want just a grim story
