Are you a new playwright looking to be produced? Team Venture

Productions is looking for new plays for consideration for our upcoming

2008-2009 season, as well as seasons beyond. Founded in late 2007, Team Venture

Productions is a group dedicated to featuring new playwrights, and

work-shopping and performing new plays and fringe theatrical pieces.

All submissions must follow these guidelines:

- We are looking exclusively for new works to the Chicagoland area.

Please submit works that have yet to be produced, or at the very least are

Midwestern premieres.

- Plays must not exceed 90 minutes (about 90 pages)

- Do not send incomplete scripts. Working drafts, if finished, are

fine, but final products are preferred.

- Please include a cover page to your script. This should include

contact info (name, address, email, phone), along with a brief synopsis of

the show, and the number of characters (both male and female).

- We would prefer all scripts to be submitted via email. If this is a

problem, email us the cover sheet info, and we will send information for

USPS delivery.

Please send all submissions to the attention of Christopher Boyd, at

teamventureprod@gmail.com.

For more information about the group or have questions concerning

submissions, email at the above address as well!

leon,

I think you posted the script once on the site, didn't you? And didn't you say people did not want to do it because they were afraid of offending their audience?

Am I thinking of another piece? Because, unless my brain has left the planet, I remember liking it.

Anyway, the piece is funnier than the video. She starts out okay but then she starts "performing" and plays it for laughs. It's a fine line...and maybe her intention was not to play it for laughs. I think it would have gotten more laughs - uncomfortabel ones! -if she played it straight, especially if the theatre looks like a firetrap to begin with. Would have been a little darker humor to keep audience off guard and have them really wondering if this is real. And I could see it being played as if the person might just have had a drink or two or a joint before they went on. Actor's choice.

I think it could use just a little editing. Not sure the part after the grandfather dying when you mention something about mice needs to be in there. A couple of others like that. But I loved the part about the "slow ones" and the old people with slow asphyxiation. And taco stand. I think the bathroom since 2001 could be better if you just said something about using it like "Not tonight." Or, "at your own risk. We're having a plumber in tomorrow. But don't worry, it's a pretty short show...two hours five minutes no intermission."

Despite the quality of the video, it was fun. Your writing kept it interesting. Lovely humor, as accustomed from you. Far better than the usual stuff we REALLY have to sit through when the A.D. or House Manager comes out and tells us how wonderful the theatre and the show is and try to hit you up for money amidst all their self-congratulations. I always say "Get the Hook" to myself. I came to see the play!

best,

P.S. Thanks for the post Mary Alice.

Yes, it's the same play.  it was accepted in a show in North. Car. but then they turned it down because of the cigarette inferences and the old people not being able to get out of the theatre.

on looking at the play again, maybe i would delete the part about the lungs looking like kelp.  it kind of bogs down the good feeling of a festival ready to begin.

and i'm just so tickled that the actor/actress does the play as written and doesn't mess up the lines.  i'm so accustomed to people stumbling over lines and ruining the punch line.  this actress was very good at delivery.  so all in all, i think it went well.
