Rec'd. an e-mail reminder that the deadline for the BBC International Radio Playwriting competition is drawing near. I entered one of my plays a few years ago and although in my humble opinion is was great and deserved a special mention at the very least, it wasn't in the winner's circle. Most likely not really "radio-ready" but I tried.
Anyway, this competition is open to everyone - no exceptions.
"The biennial International Radio Playwriting Competition is run by the BBC World Service and the British Council and is now in its eleventh year.
It is a competition for anyone resident outside Britain, to write a 60 minute radio drama for up to six characters.
There are two categories: one for writers with English as their first language and one for writers with English as their second language. The two winners will come to London and see their play made into a full radio production, which will then be broadcast on the BBC World Service. They will also each receive a £2,500 prize and there are also prizes for the runners up.
The play must be in English, unpublished and must not have been previously produced in any medium."

There's more information on this site. Anyone interested?

| I've written one radio play, which I wrote for this contest a few years back at the prompting of my neice. I'm tempted, since one contest has supervened since, to enter it again. I felt the same way about mine as you did about yours, Tragedian. Perhaps we should have shared a joint award.

| Absolutely we deserved a joint reward, Martin! Thing is...my play took place in a hair salon and given the surroundings, there isn't a whole lot of sound effects one can add. I did note the sound of a hair dryer (this was a dated, old-fashion salon) and the gasping/choking sounds made by one of my characters as he was dying... Then again I figured if my dialogue was good and the plot sustainable, it would be enough. Obviously not-lol!
