DON'T BLINK at THE VORTEX



A festival of 10 minute plays of any subject matter!



 DON'T BLINK at THE VORTEX is a national and international play festival created to foster and showcase new works by all playwrights.  The Vortex Theatre’s ongoing mission is to produce stimulating multi-cultural, classical, contemporary and cutting edge plays on a minimal budget.  The Vortex is a 33 year old non-Equity theatre in Albuquerque, NM


SUBMISSION DEADLINE: Submissions must be postmarked on or before October 15, 2010. 


THE 8 PLAYS CHOSEN will receive a FULL PRODUCTION and a 5 WEEK RUN February – March, 2011. The playwrights of these 8 chosen scripts will be notified personally, as well as posted on our website (vortexabq.org) by November 10, 2010.



A $250 CASH PRIZE will be awarded to the playwright whose play is selected as best play of festival by audience favorite (votes polled during production run).  The winner will be notified personally, as well as posted on our website (vortexabq.org), at the end of production run.   

Vortex board and staff members are not eligible. 



SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 

  • Each script must be no more that ten (10) pages long and run approximately ten minutes.  Please use 12 pt. font. 
  • Please submit only original, unpublished, never produced work (past staged reading of play permitted).  Previously submitted plays, musicals, children’s shows, and any unsolicited longer one act or full length play should not be submitted. 
  • Each playwright may submit up to two different scripts.  No playwright can have more than one play produced.  Send us your best! 
  • No submission fee is required. 
  • Each manuscript must be typed and staple bound with pages numbered.  Please format your submission in accordance with standard play script format. 
  • Submit three (3) hard copies and one (1) electronic copy for each script.
  • Hard copies:  We require a single separate information page for each play that you      enter. On this separate page indicate:     1) TITLE  2) PLAYWRIGHT NAME  3) EMAIL ADDRESS  4) MAILING ADDRESS 5) PHONE NUMBER 6) A SHORT BIO OF PLAYWRIGHT AND BRIEF SYNOPSIS OF THE PLAY
  • Please do not staple this page to the script copies.  This page will be separated from the script before being read by a blinded panel.  THIS SEPARATE PAGE IS THE ONLY PLACE YOUR NAME WILL APPEAR.  Playwright’s name will not be known to the play-reading panel.  Electronic submissions should include your name, title and phone number in body of email.  Electronic submissions should be sent to: dontblink@vortexabq.org Submissions which do not follow these specific requirements will be disqualified.   
  • We are unable to return scripts – save postage.  No SASE required. 
  • All legal clearances in the script are the sole responsibility of the playwright. 
  • The Vortex Theatre is not responsible for lost or damaged scripts.  
  • There are no restrictions on subject matter.  Cast size limited to no more than four actors.   
  • Minimal set, costume and sound requirements. A repertory set and lighting plot will be used. 
  • All plays must be submitted in a flat (unfolded) envelope to:  DON’T BLINK! at THE VORTEX,  2004 ½  Central Ave. SE, Albuquerque, NM  87106. 
  • Submissions must be postmarked on or before October 15, 2010.
