REQUEST FOR NEW SCRIPTS

Shag Rug Shows, a Baltimore-based production team, is working with The Mobtown Players, a theatre company and theatre space, also in Baltimore, MD, to produce new short plays scribed by women who hail from major cities across America. The collection of works is entitled Double X: The Bad-ass Lands and will highlight snapshot stories of “bad, bold and beautiful women from the baddest, boldest and most beautiful cities.”

The production will tie together pieces that explore the similarities and differences of a diverse sampling of women living in metropolitan areas, sharing their joys and pains of struggling to get by either financially, emotionally, intellectually, sexually, politically and/or socially in these hip and happening towns. Lead characters must be women who are able to represent a glimpse into their city-life so that the audience may travel on an “American Dream” journey.

Selected scripts will receive full production in Spring 2007 at Baltimore’s Mobtown Theatre. Selected playwrights will receive bound copies of the collection of works, which may also be considered for publication.

This is not intended for workshop productions. We are looking for solid, polished scripts that surprise us!

Requirements for Submission:

All submissions must be written by women
Playwrights should currently reside in the play’s city setting
Subject must deal with the woman’s urban experience in relation to social, political and/or sexual themes

Maximum 15-20 minutes length (10 minute plays preferred)
Previous productions okay (please supply dates and venue of any prior production)
