I am looking for a composer to write the music for a musical about Ichabod Crane. It is based on my play Return of Crane which won first place in the Dayton Futurefest Playwriting Contest a few years back. As a screenplay it was also a finalist in several contests.
Ichabod finds that Brom and Kate are in the wild west town of Abilene, Kansas and follows them there, twenty-years-on, for revenge against Brom and to make Kate his.
The book and songs have all been written and are closer to 50's and 60's musicals than other musical styles. Nothing particularly complicated. Two balladeers introducing and closing the piece (similar to Cat Ballou), romantic songs, funny songs, all tightly tied to the script.
It is currently in screenplay format, as I have had some interest there, but the songs would not be changing as I rewrite for the stage.
And one last note: This piece is written for adults, containing themes of adultery and sexual longing, but would certainly not be offensive to most audiences.

Thanks for the reply. What I am looking for now is for somebody to compose the music to 5 or 6 songs so that I can record them and then send them off this fall to various contests that are interested in musicals. If there is any interest, I will continue the process. If not, I will reconsider.
Are you "for hire" or want to partner in a project like this? Or perhaps look at the piece and then decide?
Thanks...
Stuart

Hi!

I'd be interested if you're still looking for someone. This sounds right up my alley!

I have done a lot of musical theatre orchestrating in the past, mainly for London west end showcases and the occasional amateur musical. I'd like to get into composing in the style more, I have written a few songs which I can send you.

I have all the software and equipment to make high quality demos so give me a buzz if you're interested an we can talk more!

Martin--
Thanks for your interest.
Your background sounds great!
Send me the songs you've written.
Writing musical theatre is new to me, so I'm winging it here, but that seems like a good place to start.
Thanks again--
Stuart

If you are still -- or again -- looking for a collaborator,I have composed musical theater songs over a 25 year period, mostly in conjunction with Theatre Building Chicago's workshop for new musicals. I can send you a DVD of a concert of my songs if you give me your address.
