Our Submission Spree begins Monday March 2, 2009 and ends Tuesday March 31. For 30 days we will send out at least one script per day either by email or by post.
Leave all information on this thread and THIS THREAD ONLY. Tell us what day of the spree it is by entering the date or the day number, what you sent,a brief synopsis if you like, how you sent it (post or email), and all information that will allow other members to enter their scripts. Leave the URL to the website of the theatre if possible
Go the playwrights' Noticeboard for submission opportunities. Be sure to also check out the links to more opportunities that aren't posted. Also, check out the playwright opportunities left by our fellow members. Please hunt down opportunities on your own and share them with us.
Unless we have at least a dozen members who are willing to commit, it's really way too difficult for the few who do--and will be terminated. Why? Because it takes at least a dozen folks to share enough opps to keep the Spree rolling.
Submission Sprees give us a great chance to have our work produced. TOGETHER we can all benefit!
~Edd
POST ONLY SUBMISSION STUFF. SPREES TEND TO ROLL OVER TO A COUPLE MORE PAGES AND CHATTING CONFUSES AND MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO FIND THE OPPS QUICKLY. GET READY, ENJOY AND BREAK A LEG!

Monday 2 March day one. Here are some possibles I've uncovered in Australia
Griffin Theatre in Sydney is a main stage theatre that has been concentrating on Australian work. It has recently announced the Griffin Independent series bringing the best plays from around the world so have a try Griffintheatre.com.au should get you in contact.
There's a request for large cast plays suitable for school productions for an anthology deadline is 27 March and the contact is http://www.ozscript.org/scriptreg.
Castlemaine Festival is a biannual festival staged in regional Victoria. The festival is in progress at present but they feature a new play each festival. I'll be sending my full length The Girl I Left Behind Me for consideration. They seem to welcome overseas contacts information@castlemainefestival.com.au will get you there.
For any other Aussies on the board La Mama in Melbourne is worth the try particularly if you have a director and a cast. The contact address is 205 Faraday St Carlton Vic 3053 I'll be sending my full length The Girl I Left Behind Me.

I can see already that this is not going to work out. We're certainly not going to get 12 members to commit to making this Spree work--as I said we needed upfront. Also, it turns out the Playwright Binge Group has begun their binge at the same time as us. They are a terrific group of playwrights, a well-organized and monitored group dedicated to working very hard and helping one another get produced.
For those few of you who are still interested in submitting your work along with other serious-minded playwrights who share and help one another in a team effort, I believe you ought to join their group and submit your plays.
This Submission Spree is closed. There's nothing more I can do. I'm tired.

Ah Edd
I have mine here and was going to post later on. Kids had holidays all last week and to top it all we got 16 inches snow over night and it was still snowing this afternoon. So no school today. By the time hubby dug himself and the car out of the snow he didn't get to work till 1p.m.
Have mercy on us. I was really looking forward to this and keeping myself focused

There is no Earthly reason for anyone not to submit and share your opps with others. In fact, I encourage it. No one here needs me to keep the thing going, or any other thing for that matter. I am more tired than I can non-rantingly explain. However, keep the thing going.
Peace,

Day One: Revisited to;
The first Where Eagles Dare One-page Play Festival went off pretty much as planned. There were 40 plays by almost as many playwrights, performed in 2 sessions of about 90 minutes each in the Where Eagles Dare studio theatre. We had enough space and staff to organize it smoothly, and a 6-hour tech rehearsal to familiarize the players with the space and our staff with the plays. And we sold out each show!
This E-mail is to let you know that there will be another Where Eagles Dare One-page Play Festival, hard on the heels of the first. So be prepared to sharpen that pencil and prepare another script. The rules are easy, but it doesn't hurt to repeat them:
* Send no money!
* E-mail your script in Word format only by Mar. 7, 2009 to john.chatterton@gmail.com. Production dates are Mar. 21 - 22. Performances will be Sat. at 8 and Sun. at 7, with a tech rehearsal in the afternoon. Each play will be performed once. These dates leave you no time for second thoughts -- better get cracking!
* Plays should fit on 1 page only, in standard playscript format. Standard playscript format for us means the characters' names in the middle, with stage directions indented, in 12 pt Times Roman with 1-in. margins all round. There should be a blank line above each centered character name. Add a title page with your name on it, the title of the play, contact info, and copyright notice.
* You produce your play, recruiting a director and cast, paying for rehearsal space, etc. (Where Eagles Dare will give you a hefty discount if you rehearse here.)
* Your play, if chosen, will go into 1 of 2 programs of about 20 other 1-page plays each, for a total of 40 plays.
* Where Eagles Dare will promote the Festival, but you should too.
* Tickets for anyone but the playwright are $20. The playwright is comped, natch (to the program that contains his/her show only). (If we don't have enough seats to accommodate all patrons, we might seat playwrights for the half of the program in which their plays appear. Tell all your friends and relatives to buy tickets in advance -- we intend to sell out!)
* There will be no Equity showcases. There will be no reserved comps except press. There will be no reservations except for tickets sold in advance through SmartTix.
* Where Eagles Dare will endeavor to publish your play, unless you decline to do so, in one volume, one page each, at no charge to the playwright. (Royalties will be paid.)
So get that one-page play in to the second Where Eagles Dare One-page Play Festival right away! Time's a-wasting!

Sent a synopsis writing sample to Purple Rose Theatre.
I chose this theatre because my play has a Midwest theme and sensibility and they had great stuff to say about one of my previous plays.
They accept e-mail or paper. Read carefully the guidelines if electronic submissions. Accept text only.
http://www.purplerosetheatre.org/playwrights.shtml
edd, when did you learn this other group was doing this the same time we are?
Personally, I do not care how many sign up. I am not submitting for them. I am submitting for myself. What anyone else does has nothing to do with me. I will just consider us a playwriting cadre' rathe than a group on this. More dashing sounding.
And now, to bed.

Sent a Query/Synopsis to Purdue University Theatre Department.
Nowhere does it say they accept scripts, but one of my plays is set in Lafayette, Indiana, and students can play the ages of the parts. (Purdue is in West Lafayette.) The play has had several University level productions. Thought I would give it a try.
I may try several other universities as well during the spree for this particular play.

Day two. Sent a synopsis of The Girl I Left behind Me to Castlemane Festival as per my first posting.
Had an email yesterday from Griffin Theatre...see my first post. They're making a big thing of their independent season. Criteria for submission are tough... you must be represented by an agent or have had a professional production but it's a highly respected company griffintheatre.com.au will get you to the site.
I'm working my way through UK theatre companies anyone come up with any who are accepting unsolicited scripts? More power to you submiting to Druids they're a great company

We accept submissions of one-acts that are 20 minutes or less. They have to be original (not published). If there have been previous productions of the play - that is not a problem. My only advice is to keep it simple. The bigger the play (cast and set), the less likely we can produce it.

I'm finally on the board! I've decided to just shop my newest play twice thus far, submitting "An Internet Love Story" to:
1) Cheshire Comedy Publishing - for their 2009 Funniest Play on Earth Contest. Last year worked, so here's for another go-around!

2) Alloy Theatre Company - it's not a part of any kind of contest or anything, but the theatre is interested in developing new works according to their "about" page.

It's Saturday and today I've sent Three Toe Scratch to The National Pastime Theatre which, it's web page says proudly, operates from an old speakeasy in Chicago. Who could resist?
The address is 4139 North Broadway Ave Chicago Il 60613
The request is for an email contact to be included.
Could I urge anyone who is hovering thinking of joining this spree even at this stage to get on board. The big advantage I've discovered is that I set out to market a aouple of specific plays and find , once I research the companies, that perhaps other plays, older plays that I've had for a while would be better suited to that particular company. really makes you think about the market..
Have a try. I'm currently working through all of the companies I can find in Chicago. Many don't accept unsolicited submissions but a surprising number do and if you don't try....
The best

Not really me but in my trawl through the Chicago theatres I've come across Rasaka Theatre Company which has as its primary mission giving a voice to the South Asian experience.
They are accepting submissions via scripts_sub@rasakatheatre.org
Hope it's of use to some one

Here are my submissions so far. Might get a few more in.
Where I listed my agent submitted, I have noted whether the theatres also have a General Submission/query policy.
1. INDIANA REP
Submitted my play about growing up in the Midwest. This went through my agent. General Submisisons: Follow the guidelines listed below:
http://www.irtlive.com/artists_information/playwrights/
2. RIVERSIDE THEATRE, IOWA CITY, IOWA
Submitted my play about growing up in the Midwest
Submitted query by myself in hard copy. General Submissions: follow the guidelines
http://www.riversidetheatre.org/opportunities/opportunities.htm
3. PORTLAND STAGE
Agent submitted my American Western.
Follow the guidlelines for self-submission:
http://www.portlandstage.com/Literary.html
4. PITTSBURGH PUBLIC THEATRE
Agent submitted American Western.
There are no guidelines posted, but looks as if you can e-mail them to find out things. Look at this site page.
http://www.ppt.org/content/contactus.cfm
5. MILWAUKEE CHAMBER THEATRE
Agent submitted Western
No guidelines found.
http://www.chamber-theatre.com/news.html
6. McCARTER THEATRE
Agent submitted Western.
They do not accept unsolicited scripts. Keep in mind this is a large theatre. Intimate plays might not do well.
http://www.mccarter.org/AboutUs/AboutDefault.aspx?page_id=45
7. ACTORS THEATRE OF PHOENIX
I sent a hard copy query about my Western. There is nothing on the site that says to do so. But the Dramatists Guild 2009 directory says they are interested in political theatre. From a survey of their last several season, this does not prove to be true, but, hey, what the hell? Political theatre in Phoenix sounds like an oxymoron!
http://www.atphx.org/
8. ALLIANCE THEATRE
Agent submitted an adult romance. Did this on the basis that the Artistic Director responded quite favorably to a previous submission.
Found no real guidelines, but they have some local Atlanta play development stuff going on.
http://www.alliancetheatre.org/newplay.aspx?id=32
9. SIGNATURE STAGE ARLINGTON, VA
Agent submitted my Western. It is right near Washington, D.C. A political piece.
There are no guidelines on their site for submissions.
http://www.signature-theatre.org/
10. PORTLAND STAGE
Agent submitted my Western. Saw they were doing FROST/NIXON.
Guidelines are buried into their site.
http://www.pcs.org/scripts/
11. NEW GROUND THEATRE Davenport, IA
Submitted by self my play about growing up in the Midwest.
No guidelines on submissions. Just did it.
http://www.newgroundtheatre.org/
12. SAN DIEGO REP
Agent submitted my western.
Their site says: “We promote a more inclusive community through vivid works that nourish progressive political and social values and celebrate the multiple voices of our region.”
They are doing Threepenny Opera. At least they are doing Threepenny Opera!
No guidelines on the site.
Here is a staff list: http://www.sdrep.org/Staff.aspx
13. PHILADELPHIA THEATRE COMPANY
Submitted Western through my agent.
They do not accept any unsolicited scripts or queries at this time due to overload.
http://www.philadelphiatheatrecompany.org/about/submissions.html
14. THE ACTORS COLLECTIVE San Francisco
Looks like an interesting group. No guidelines whatsoever, but sent a hard copy query and script sample.
http://www.theactorscollective.org/
