For those of you in the NY tri-state area, I whole heartedly recommend In the Heights. It's a fantastic musical about the lives of latino americans in Washington Heights. It's rich in latin music, lyrics and culture with wonderful hood story thrown in.
It's got the pulsating excitement of Rent but I actually enjoyed this more.
So if any of you are in town, you may want to check this show out.
Hi there - I haven't seen it myself, but a friend (who is a performer) has just come back from NY and said it was pretty dire with a thumping rock score that just wrecked all of the text for him. I had a listen in at their official website and the music does appear to rather anodyne. I don't know how much they stick to the original script as the 'book' is credited to the lyricist Steven Sater rather than to Wedekind.
It is interesting to note that Wedekind is now out of copyright (well, in the UK at least) so his work is open to all comers to do what they want with with no input needed from the writer's estate.....
