"In the long history of the cinema, how many movies, let alone violent boxing movies, can have been based on a poem? Yet one was, a 1949 RKO release... moreĀ»"

I recommend this article by Jefferson Hunter from the Hudson Review for anyone. Yes, it is long form essay, however it is brilliantly written.
Within the article there is so much: A writer's life, a writer's journey, an excellent, specific description/example of adaptation and how to adapt, and how movies, novels, plays and poetry really are not that far apart as they all plant pictures and images in our heads. It is also about the development and history of the cinema and its techniques to this day.
For anyone interested in screenplays - oops, I've said the dreaded word! - I would especially suggest this essay.
best,
