“The Humans” by Stephen Karam which won the Tony Award for Best play, along with other Tony Awards, is now on National Tour. I saw it two days ago in Chicago.
It is quite rare that Straight Plays go on National Tour anymore in the USA. Usually it is only Broadway Musicals that tour. So this is a great chance to see Professionalism at work. I highly recommend it. Beautiful script, exceptional ensemble of solid professional actors.
Exquisite, seamless directing. The play originated in Chicago at a small theatre, American Theatre Company, and then was produced in NYC at Roundabout, and then transferred to Broadway. Directed by the brilliant Joe Mantello.
Runs 1hour 30 minutes with no intermission.
Besides winning Tony for Best Play by Stephen Karam...
It also won:
Best Performance by an Actor in a Featured Role in a Play
Best Performance by an Actress in a Featured Role in a Play
Best Scenic Design of a Play:
The National Tour features Richard Thomas and Pamela Reed, in a beautiuflly acted ensemble production.
Saw it on Broadway that year! Really something special, intimate. Plays are definitely about people, even when they're not, and this one really struck a chord.
