I think this is a very moving bit of theater.  No words, but says so very much,

and is just replete with metaphor. If you have ten minutes to spare (and

the link I inserted works), take a look, tell me what you think.

It is called "The Storm" and is part of Cirque du Soleil's  "Alegria".

i have seen this before but i agree with you that it is simply stunning. I have watched quite a few of these while studying Artaud to bring me a little more inspiration. Im glad you posted this for others to see.

Nate88,

Thanks for replying! I kept seeing the "number of views" tally

rise and rise and no one up to this point had written a thing.

I thought: "Damn, am I the only one who thinks this "play" is

any good? I have extremely unpopular taste in theater!" Now,

at least I know I'm not entirely alone!

When you say that you've "seen this before", do you mean

this act specifically in "Alegria" or have you seen this same

act elsewhere?

I have seen "Alagria" before, it came to london not so long ago, and me and my class mate where putting on a simlar project (only not as glamorous due to our similar love for all things "Poor Theatre") so using some of the same atributes of Cirque. Ofcourse it would be nowhere near as professional were only students directing students - Artaud was the basis, the script was the back bone and the circusesq expressionistic way of viewing the production was infact the flesh. all in all incase you wondered A's all around. (Ha! to everyone else who laughed and did Naturalism.)

by the way, have you seen any of the other shows they have done such as..."Dralion" and "Varekai"? (they are the only ones that pop to mind due to our reasurch)

Nate88,

I've seen just about all of their performances (on video), "Alegria" being

my favorite among them. The only one I have been to see in a theater

is "Mystere" in Las Vegas; it was the first and ranks as one of the most

memorable experiences of my life; it opened a world to me; I had not

known theater could be what "Mystere" was (is). Attending the show

was a gift given to me from my boss (she and her husband treated

me and my wife to the performance while we were in Las Vegas attending

a convention), and I will never forget how. as we were leaving the theater

afterward, my boss turned and asked me (awestruck) how I liked the show,

goosebumps raised all along her arms; I learned something about her that

evening, understood (and appreciated )her a little better; proof what good

theater can do: open other worlds to us while also  teaching us about those

peopling our own.
