I'm exhausted.  A full length play of mine that was produced this past summer is being adapted to a full length film.  We've got our director, DP, light op, sound op, costumer, web designer, and most of the cast.

All the details though - exterior, interior, close ups, zoom outs, extreme close ups, fade out/in/to black.  These are not things I normally consider as a playwright.

I've got formatting guides, sample scripts, and thankfully a director who is well versed in film/television.  I'm enjoying the creativity as I'm able to depict many visuals that were only spoken of and add so much color.  I'm on page 24 out of 75.

So tired.

but that's such a good kind of exhausted. i think it's a wonderful opportunity, especially since you are re-writing the play into a screenplay. I wonder how many playwrights actually got this opportunity. Maybe it's more frequent than i imagine.

cheers and let us know what comes of it. it would be fun to see.

It's really making me look at the play in a new way.  Visuals come to life.  Seeing the world through the characters eyes and telling the story through actual events occuring on stage that otherwise would be difficult.  New characters spring up to help tell the story and create new more pressing dynamics.  It's still beyond exhausting and while the formatting is shaky at best, it's such an experience.
