mac,

I fear that you rejoice too soon, as did I.

There's nothing to stop the flamers from joining multiple times under different IDs and dogging posts.

In fact, they need not even join the forum in order to post, since it accepts posts by guests. They aren't interested in sending and receiving private messages and certainly aren't interested in deleting their posts, privileges that are extended only to members.

I respect the choice of the owners of the site to keep it open to newcomers but I'm afraid their generosity will continue to be abused.

Deepak

If nothing else, it should curb the pornbots that were beginning to blitzkrieg the place.

Let's not pronounce the thing dead on Day One. Give it time, see who gets scared off by the ostensible need to register.

(Says he who would formerly only post under J_S.)

The Forum doesn't accept post from Guests, Deepak, viz -

"The board requires you to register in order to post new topics, reply to topics started by other users, attach files to your posts, start polls, or vote on polls"

In short, you have to be a registered Member with an authentic email address (easily acquired, I agree)

But yes, if people want to mess about using false hotmail IDs etc, then there's little can be done to stop them

But this new software does offer a degree of protection - Banned Lists, IP Identification etc

There is a very surreal quality to this, like going to a party, and feeling as if you knew everyone, but you don't, like it's a karma party, and you are there with a bunch of people you haven't seen since your past life, but their faces and names have changed and you feels as if a certain person might have been someone else but you aren't sure, and you don't want to say because maybe in the other life they ran their sword through a hero.

You know, or something nearly like it.

This is terrific, Paul.  Thanks for sending the invitation. It's been a couple years.  Maybe this new software will bring about a refreshing and positive difference.  I see many familiar folk still here which is warming.  Hello again!  -edd

...watched my short in Illinois on Saturday. Much fun. 4 out of 8 playwrights showed up: Boston, NY, local, and me. Had a "talk back" session after and they were also holding a critical review on Sunday with various folks, but i couldn't stay.

Our friend from "Short and Sweet" (Alex B from Sydney) had a play there also (a loooong way to come. he not there....(but i really liked his play

Next year's theme: One shoe...

And how did the talk-back session go?  Any insights?  Any surprises?
