This weekend, Fri, Sat, Sun May 23-25, is the 13th Annual Lower East Side Festival of the Arts. It encompasses theatre, dance, music, poetry, film, kids performing for kids, a street fair and a visual arts exhibit. And all of it is FREE to the public.
I have 2 pieces in this year's festival: a 5 minute film in the Film Festival on Saturday (6PM) and a 15 minute play on Sunday evening (9:15 PM)
"Mary's Novel Adventure" is a silent movie in the style of the 1908 Biograph Studio. It was created for my recent stage production The Ghosts of 14th Street. Includes original piano accompaniment. Scenario and direction by Barbara Kahn.
"Law and Order: E.S.L." is a satire on "Law & Order S.V.U." It follows the special squad whose job is to go after the people who butcher the English language. Features an original song called "What did it get me?" (think "Rose's Turn" in Gypsy). Lyrics by Barbara Kahn, music by Allison Tartalia.
Coming off a major Spring production, the L.E.S. Festival is a place for me to write something just for fun. I have participated in the Festival from its beginning.
Theater for the New City. 155 First Ave (between 9th & 10th Sts). Subway: Astor Place. Bus: M14 to 1st Ave. 212-254-1109
Check the theater's website for more info about the festival and if you're in or near New York City, spend some time watching what's happening on stage in our neighborhood. There are 100's of performers and performing organizations represented.

(If you are a current or former resident of the Lower East Side or have another significant connection to the neighborhood such as work experience and you would like to submit something for next year's festival, make a note and contact the theater early next year.)
