If you're near U of Central Missouri next weekend:
Chance of Rain: A Noah Riff by Kato McNickle, directed by John Wilson is winner of the National Playwriting for Youth Award and will be presented by the University of Central Missouri October 29 & 30. Tickets available through the Performing Arts Series - 660-543-8888.
One of the interesting things about this play is that it wasn't getting in anywhere and then I decided to change the title from
WHETHER: a Noah Riff
CHANCE OF RAIN: A Noah Riff
and the very next place I sent it (U of CM) is now doing it.
But titles do matter.
The other interesting thing a bout this play is that it went from conception to expression in about 3 days -- with one day of thinking about it and then 48 hours of writing. This is a "Bake-Off" play -- which is one of Paula Vogel's techniques for writing. A group of writers gets the same criteria for subject and inclusion in their works and then once they start writing the clock starts -- and 48 hours later you have to stop writing. Also -- no editing. Once it's down it's in the draft and you can't change it until after the play is read. We then read the plays together.
