Suburban Redux!

Yes, I did it again – I published another play on Stageplays.com’s own Cyber Press platform. The play began life as a one-act called “Cuthbert’s Last Stand”. That play was an award-winner that went on to have two productions in New York and several others in the U.S. and Canada. I also had several monologues from it published in Smith & Kraus monologue anthologies, which have continued to generate interest in the play ever since.

I later decided that it would be fun and a challenge to continue on with the story and adapt it into a full-length play….which was to become “Suburban Redux”. That play went on to have successful productions in both the U.S. and Canada and garner great reviews along the way. Naturally, I sent it out to the major theatre publishers, thinking this modern day comedy of manners, with productions and great reviews would be a slam dunk. Wrong. Whatever their reasoning might have been, I do not know, but those gatekeepers of literary departments on high decided to take a pass. So once again I have taken matters in to my own hands and put it out there myself.

The fact is there really aren’t that many opportunities at any given time to submit your plays for production. Many theatres don’t even advertise the fact – they just go looking around for what sounds new and interesting. So the more exposure your play receives, the more chances you have of some receptive eyes falling on your work. And that’s something the Cyber Press platform provides, so I’m giving it another go.

And here’s the basic blurb:

This witty satire set in England centers around a bored housewife, her presumed gay son, and supporting characters with secrets of their own! Award-winning playwright Andrew Biss turns the average coming out of the closet story on its head in a hilarious and poignant script about truth, love and acceptance.

We’ll see what happens, but either way I’m so glad this new opportunity exists.
