Mana:
there is a certain banality
about houses bathed
in stiff evening light,
days shorter than tempers,
leaves that shame
nakedness by dropping
like unaswered questions

november clouds articulate
winds speak languages
understood only by interpreters
the balance of colder evenings
inspires new things to wish for

the young don’t care,
just don’t leave them
home alone, just don’t
talk as if they will never age

it seems like only yesterday
chocolate chip cookies
were on the table,
white milk was poured
into two tall glasses

we laughed as if life was the joke,
looked across the field at no one
we now talk, often by candlelight
even sometimes, waxing regret
