Mana:
stubbed lucky strikes
litter a backyard bare spot,
worn by small dog
who broke chain
and ran away
last winter

a full moon foams
like warm beer

somewhere,
a phone rings

"hello, harry"

says a soft
blonde hair

"can’t wait
to see you"

downstairs
a pale stranger
rests, back spined
against his brass railing

he listens intently
for his own ring

beneath the soft, peeling
paint of the ceiling
