A note to timmy:

I was working on this last week and when I saw what you posted as the title of your lovely poem just previous to this one on this same thread, I had to laugh! I was going to change my title, but I thought it better to keep the original. I wrote it as a kind of companion to my "February Friend" I posted about a year ago.

Best,

IMR

JANUARY SNOWS

The Snowman moved into the neighbor's yard
Two weeks ago

Strapping, tall, three white balls a perfect round
Worn broom secured in left arm
Two sharp Kingsford Charcoal eyes
Wearing supersize Harry Caray eyeglasses
Resting on his carrot nose
A green and yellow kazoo in his mouth
All cheered as a Chicago Bears Cap
Was placed atop at a snappy angle
Amidst red-cheeked cold and glee
A Colossus looming over his white domain

Today much shorter than yesterday
And the day before and before and before
He leans forward
His broom now a cane
Leaning on his hip
Glasses tilting to side
One eye drooping
Damp Bears cap blown into
A blackened and yellowed snow pile

Toothless lips drooling,
He gurgles for attention
From any passers-by for
Even pitying glances

They dash by
Unconcerned about
A Brief Life

I enjoyed this very much, in media res. It galloped along, gave me a laugh, and then an "aww."

Warm regards in January,

 kris
