Ran across this sad tale in the NY Times.

Dastardly villains!

"Puppets Stolen From Performing Arts Van in Hawaii"
By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Are we going to have to start putting GPS chips in our puppets, now!

Found this site yesterday, seems I was wrong about lack of demand judging by the number of downloads logged there.

http://www.puppetresources.com

This seems an excellent resource for puppet scripts, with lots of formatting examples.

Hi in media res!  Funny, I was looking at their page on the Cabinet a couple of days ago.  Fascinating website, it looks like they do a lot of innovative puppet work.  I'm keeping my eye on them!

Hi Potabasil!  Wow, that looks like fun.  Wish I had a jet so I could visit all these festivals!  LOL

Red Moon Theatre in Chicago.

But they do tend to do their own uniquely created stuff.

A friend of mine always has attended a lot of theatre. He is not in theatre. He is a teacher turned a politician. Great guy. Truly loves theatre, art, movies, books. Wish there were more politicians like him.

One time I asked him if he ever attended Red Moon. His reply, "My limits of my taste in theatre ends with puppets."

the man who ran this theatre for donkey years died recently. It's very popular in Ireland.  Check out the website.  Their is a Puppet Fest this year

Good luck
I love puppets and dolls and doll houses.

At this point, I'm learning.  I have a long background in doll making and messing around with paper-mache figures (not play dolls) and puppets have always fascinated me.  Eventually, I'd love to write some puppet plays, but have to learn first how they're different from people plays.

Basically, I love make believe, crazy characters in wild costumes!  LOL

I do think you're right in that puppet groups write plays for their own puppets as a whole project.

Another option for me would be to write plays that used both puppets and real people.

I would imagine for there not to be particular demand for puppet plays, mainly because a) there are very few puppet theatre venues, and b) those puppet theatre venues that exist write their own scripts around their "character personality".

It's an interesting concept though. Are you thinking about writing a puppet script? I'm sure they would be interested in hearing from you if you are.

Thanks, I'll check it out!  Just surfing around, I did see quite a lot of exciting puppet stuff in the UK, but less so in the US.  I know some publishers carry scripts for puppet plays, but am not sure how popular they are.

There's a Puppet theatre company in Norwich, England. They specialise in shows using puppets made by their members, of all ages. The scripts are written by members, but I think they would take on external work if good enough. They tend to run short 5/10 minute sketches combined into an evening centering around individual puppets, they tend to be either monologues or 2/3 puppets sketches/plays. Take a look:-

Hey all!  Has anyone ever seen any Calls for Submissions for puppet play scripts?  I've done a lot of Googling and haven't found anything so far.  I assume most theatres that do puppet stuff (for adults) probably write their own scripts, but maybe not?

thanks!
