While I see merit in closing topics that threaten to spin out of control or to meander without any input to members, and knowing my propensity to rock the boat, I still fail to see the merit of closing topics that don't have even one response.
What's a forum without discussion?

I have no idea what you are talking about. If there are closed "forums" then it is by mistake. If you are talking about submission opportunities or Stop Press they are closed to serve you with special announcements and opportunities to help you as a playwright. If announcements and opportunities were not closed they would continue getting lost beneath posts and would have little effect serving others because they wouldn't always be seen. Why of Earth should that be a problem to you? There are tons of other places to post, like where you're posting right now. But, again, if there are closed forums other than those mentioned, please let Paul know so they can be repaired. Thank you.

You might not be able to see the lock, because you generated the post, perhaps it is not locked for you. But everyone else, there is no way continue the thread.
Actually. most of the locked discussions are ones you have posted to, so perhaps you are accidentally closing the topics. Just a thought.
With great software, comes glitches.

Nowhere have I said anything about closed forums.
There are forums. There are sub-forums. Within the sub-forums are topics.
Some of these topics have been closed, such as Paddy's topic about the one-hour writing exercise.

There are a couple of locked discussions on most of the boards right now. For example the Never Ask thread on the STAGE board; and the McLaren Finalist thread on the announcements board. that sort of thing.

You are reading way too much into that. I believe Paul closed the one-hour flash exercise simply so people wouldn't post their writing exercises under that topic, where they would get lost.

"Never ask" started by me and replied to by leon ( stageplays-forum.com > General > The Stage > Never ask...) is locked.
From replies by moderators, I'm inclined to think either leon or I inadvertently locked the topic.
If moderators can look into it and unlock what I think is a genuine foray into playwrights' inputs on staged plays, I'll be grateful. If there is a way to understand what caused the lock I'll be still more grateful.
If, on the other hand, I've transgressed boundaries of which I'm unaware, I apologise.
If this site is using vbulletin or similar software, it's a simple matter to mark a post as a "sticky" or "announcement", obviating the need to lock it in order to prevent it from being swamped by subsequent posts.

Paddy Sites using vbulletin or phpbb allow moderators and administrators to mark a post as a "sticky" or as an "announcement". Both kinds of posts remain "always on top" in the sub-forum, with an "announcement" being always the topmost post, while stickies stay below announcements but above ordinary posts.
No matter how many replies (or a lack thereto) , stickies and announcements remain at the top of every page in the sub-forum.

If any others are found please let us know and they will be repaired quickly. I know I somehow locked one of mine and it was a long question that Kato tried to respond to - and had to respond to it on another forum. Then I tried to cut and paste it then lost it and tried to reconstruct it but couldn't get back into the mindset that created it. How I did that I do not know. I'll certainly look into it. In future I'll count on Kato and Deepak to keep at least me on my toes, but not too long as I tend to be top heavy.

My "twelve hours to go" post was locked as well. No bother, as it was locked probably around the time twelve hours had actually past. But it would have been nice to say thanks to those who responded, or to tell how the show went. (Very well.)

You're right, Mark. I just found a couple more that were closed and I opened them. I'll run through all the sub forums several times a day to make sure all is as it should be. If anyone has any trouble please notify Paddy or me by IM so it can be taken care of immediately.
