I need to write a query for a contest and have never done it before. Please someone point me to a helpful guide on the web or send me an example letter (steamboat.chambers@gmail.com) anything! What is the overall point and arch to convey in these letters? As you can see I'm helpless and pleading.

Cheers,

S.C.

steamboat,

edd, you give me too much credit.

If you go more deeply through other posts in this thread you will be able to get some good info.

Katoagago has some very good info on her site:

http://playwrightzoo.blogspot.com/2007/08/under-cover.html

http://playwrightzoo.blogspot.com/2007/08/letter-rip-part-2.html

But please, take the time and go through the thread and see how much good discussion there has been.

Write one and post it. You'll get some critique.

best,

in media res

Any upfront differences to suggest for a solicited query ratehr than an unsolicited one?

On a paragraph by paragraph basis, how, generally, should the query letter function? Kinda outta off topic, but does someone with very little background and experience submitting work and no playwriting resume stand to have any kind of chance winning a residency spot at a theater? The one I'm thinking of is the Hangar Theater opp. The details are under the March '08 deadline for contests and opportunities here on the board. Mayeb someone can lend me some from-the-heart honesty.
