This article is from the New York Times Arts Section today.

Make certain you read it.

It is about the legalized pilfering of playwrights by certain non-profit Theatres. Some of these non-profit Artistic Directors get paid hundreds of thousands a year, plus pension plans, health insurance, expense accounts for travel, meals entertaining, and they are taking money from a playwright's pocket?! Why don't they also just go out and mug little old ladies after they attend a Sunday matinee?

Yes the theatres can do some good work, but to paraphrase the Bible's "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?"

I say, "What does it profit your soul, if you lose the value of your Royalties?"

Remember, if you are a pushover, people are waiting in line to push you over.

Make sure you read it.

We should all send kudos/mana to Craig Lucas and Michael Ritchie.

P. S. If you ever need info on a theatre's finances, you can go to

guidestar.net

All non-profit organizations must publicly file their tax forms. Often, to hide their names, their official name is different from their public name, but usually that is not the case.

You have to register, and you will have to look at tax forms, but they can prove to be very interesting.

Another great article from MIR; thanks man.

It also highlights how much you need to love your craft/art, because for most of us it will not be any kind of money making venture.
