Hello All,

I am looking for a good playwriting course, designed for teens, to help me expand my playwriting skills. I live near New York City, so somewhere near that area is prefered. I also would not mind an online course.

I've also heard of a workshop collection called the Gotham Writers' Workshop (over the internet at http://www.writingclasses.com/index.php).

Any thoughts? Is this sort of thing worth the money?

Playwriting is intuitive. Go with your gut instinct. You are your best teacher. Just write -- you'll know when it's right.

Everybody here should know by now that Harvey's advice is exactly the advice I would give.  You're either a playwright or you're not.

http://www.stageplays-forum.com/forum3/2621.html

On advice to the young playwright, Edward Albee remarks that it is "helpful to know that you ARE a playwright first."  "Study everything!" "Study the history of plays, music, and painting." "Keep your mind open." "Be sure you ARE a playwright." "FUNCTION as a playwright."

That's the best I know,
~Edd

Yes! Yes, to everything stated here.  And, because sometimes community is very helpful, you might wish to check out Tada Theatre http://www.tadatheater.com/narrativeclassesandcamps.asp.  Best luck and keep writing!

I can vouch for TADA - I've done a number of workshops with them and they a great resource.

Community is indeed important - at some point the play has to come out to be seen and heard.
