Here's a really interesting exercise. Eaves-drop. Listen in. Snoop. Sit in a cafe or anywhere you can easily hear other people's conversations, and start writing the dialogue.

Not only does it put you in touch with a different kind of dialogue, it may give you a really great idea for a story.

Great idea. That's what Tarantino did (allegedly) when coming up with dialogue for Pulp Fiction.
