Premiere Play Festival (Summer and Fall, 2010, Union, NJ) – Premiere Stages Theatre Company seeks plays for full development through discussion, rehearsals, sit-down readings, staged readings, and fully-produced Equity productions. Open to playwrights living in the greater NY metro area (New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania). Readings will be held in the spring, and two plays will be chosen to enter an intensive development phase during which playwrights work with a director, dramaturg, and design team to develop the play for a staged workshop or full production within a few months. The goal is to develop plays that will go on to have subsequent productions around the country, and they strive to facilitate relationships between playwrights and other theatre professionals toward this end.
Top three playwrights will receive cash prizes up to $2,000.
The festival winner is guaranteed a slot in the upcoming mainstage season.
Accepts full scripts from literary agents or theatre professionals familiar with their work; all other writers should submit an 8-page script sample and synopsis.
Plays must be full-length and have a cast of no more than 8. Plays must be unproduced and unpublished.
Preferred plays will have at least one character that can be played by a college-aged actor, and will explore or address contemporary issues.
Playwrights of color are highly encouraged to submit.
If submitting without an agent, include a brief synopsis, a character breakdown, bio or resume, the play’s development history, and up to 8 pages of sample script from the play.
NO FEE.
