We began 2010 with a new name, changing from "The Lost Playwrights of Western North Carolina" to "Mountain Stage Co."
On Saturday evening, January 23rd, we opened to a croud of 50, in a cabaret setting, rivaling our largest audience (last July, in the height of the season) of 55. With a full dining room of patrons and several new actors, we had a delightful evening of 7 staged readings, one fully-rehearsed monologue and a wonderful presentation of the "Drunk Porter" scene from Macbeth.
I've received more than 100 plays since my info was posted by the DG e-newsletter.
Please feel encourage to forward short (5-15 minute) plays to me at ratsss@juno.com... respects and best wishes to all... Sam

| One of my 'quickie' plays, "The God Call" was among the group featured. It was my first play-ette produced as a reading and Sam is a delight to deal with professionally.

I second that about Sam. Some ADs say they'll send a poster, program, etc. -- Sam actually does it!

If you folks keep saying kind things about me I'll have to begin acting almost human. At least my wife keeps me reminded of all the improvements I need.
Following our February performance, our venue of 18 months closed... but we open again on May 8th at a new location which, for the first time ever, won't have a huge amount of ambient noise requiring our actors to raise their voice above acceptable levels.
Thanks for all the kind words... being as I'm unpaid, that's what I live for.

So Sam,
Where are you playing at now?
By the way , you deserve the praise.
I sent "Crossroads" on to Virginia, haven't heard anything.
I'm going to forward on a small piece to you. See if you like it.
I can smell the wind thru the spring pines.
Best to you.

Okay, Sam, just so you don't get a big head, I am going to issue you this challenge:
Be even nicer!
I think what you are doing is terrific. I have done a little of what you are doing- though informally - in Chicago.
One of the young actors I had do an informal reading for me of a play written by one of our Forum member's is now opening as the lead character in a new Broadway show! I am so happy for him. He is just a little something more than wonderful! Talk about coming in "prepared" to do a "reading!" WOW! He is the type of actor who separates the professionals from the amateurs!
Anything that gives exposure to playwrights and actors is a plus on the Universal Goodness Charts.
You never know where the talent will come from.
Keep doing what you are doing. But, Sam...as I say, just be nicer!
best,
