Hunger Artists Theatre Company is accepting scripts for its 10 minute play festival Beyond Convention 4. Scripts must be under ten minutes long and challenge normal theatre conventions.
Now's your chance to break the normal rules of structure, form, character, and content! If you have a play that wouldn't normally be seen onstage, we're looking for it. We will only accept up to two plays per author, so submit your best. Please do not resubmit plays that you submitted to previous Beyond Convention festivals.
Please note that we're looking for unconventional material. To give you some examples, past plays included short musicals, Seussian/Mamet dialogue, characters as tetrominoes (tetris pieces), lines from fortune cookie sayings, characters only lit by flashlight, dialogue determined by playing Twister, and water particles as characters. If you're unclear on the parameters, check out this review of Beyond Convention 2. http://www.ocweekly.com/2008-11-20/culture/hunger-artists-beyond-convention/ Check out http://www.hungerartists.com to see regular season and then think of material that pushes beyond this as our norm.
You can submit your play electronically as a Word Document or pdf to Emily Brauer Rogers at beyondconvention@gmail.com. Please include your script, title page including your contact information, and a brief reason as to why this fits Beyond Convention. We prefer email submissions, but if you must send by mail, please include all of the following information, as well as an extra copy of your script (2 total) to Beyond Convention, Hunger Artists Theatre Company, 699-A S. State College Blvd, Fullerton, CA 92831. Scripts will not be returned. Submissions must be emailed or postmarked by March 31, 2009. If you have any questions about submitting, you can contact beyondconvention@gmail.com
