That's daunting. But I wonder how he choses who to submit to. At first, I sent my plays to anyone and everyone. But I've recently started targeting particular plays to particular theaters. I want to save myself printing costs and disappointment.

Well that's slightly depressing! And I'm a neophyte in the craft with only two written pieces and one submission to a contest, which happened to be a kind rejection. They called the piece "thought-provoking" and noted that it seemed like "a lot of effort was put into it". But I've recently sent the same play into a publishing contest, so we'll see how that goes. By this article's statistics, I should expect a whole-hearted dismissal of the work!
