Fabulous, Poet!  I too laughed out loud, but unlike mac I'm not at work and I'm not on the job.  I'm simply at home playing the slob.  I stay in my bathrobe till half past noon then I figure it's too late to groom.  So I stay in my robe and I stay in my room. I just sit here and avoid all boredom by living on air in the stageplays forum.

poet, that was brilliant! had me laughing out loud, which is both rare for me in a poetry encounter, and bad because i'm reading at the office.

thank you.

WHAT DID YOU DO TO OUR LANGUAGE?!

I yearn for the years when the words were my own

When your ‘voice-mail’ was left on my old answerphone.

On my mobile (not ‘cell’) I’m in touch with the nation

In a caravan (not ‘mobile’) when I’m not on ‘vacation’!

I go home for dinner; I refuse to ‘do lunch’

And a really late breakfast I’ll never call ‘brunch’.

As my chips are now ‘fries’ and my crisps are now ‘chips’

I shall give no ‘gratuities’ - but with a smile I’ll leave tips.

My car has a windscreen, and not a ‘windshield’,

And yes, it’s a car, not a ‘motor’ or ‘wheels’!

The ‘fenders’ were bumpers and a soft-top’s a ‘hood’

Or is that the bonnet? My memory’s not good.

‘MPV’s’ and ‘RV’s were once vans, I recall

And we used ‘cheques’ but not ‘checks’ to pay for them all.

I know that my ‘condo’ was first bought as a flat

(It was once an ‘apartment’, I am sure of that).

I’m not ‘nauseous’, I’m just sick, and are you surprised?

When my autumn is ‘fall’ and my ‘zipper’ was flies?

I wore trousers outside and my ‘pants’ underneath.

Now it’s all wrong way round; and it beggars belief!

When applying for jobs I don’t use ‘resumé’

A CV will do me, I’m happy to say.

I’m not a ‘vice-principal’ in my business sector

Bollocks to that – I’m just a director.

So I yearn for the years when the words were my own

If my ‘voice-mail’ appears on your old answerphone.

Consider, America, as you scan through this tome
