Mana:
The man faces a wall; it is painted
the color of autumn apple leaves
and it hints of its own orchard,
the gathering of wine seeds;
when he stares at the wall
it is enough to make the woman
look up at him and smile

The man faces a wall at the edge
of snow; buried beneath are some
of the things he has lost: a wrench,
a child’s bicycle, his good luck,
some of his warmth and other things
he thought were solid, but were not

The man faces a wall; no matter the color,
nor what he sees on it, he is still a man,
and he will always think of summer;
the times he held her in his arms,
the times they both held real stories
in their warm blood and shared them
