BRAVA! BRAVA!!!!! BRAVA!!!!!!! for mentioning this!!!!!!
This most wonderful site has been invaded and over-run by spammers and scammers and has damaged the site immensely. I have been a member since 2006 and this was a wonderful site.
Prior to the "monitoring" of the site somewhere around 2006, it was the Wild West. People cursing at each other, combined with some serious theater discussion. it could be creative, but it also could be very, very personally ugly.
Then, when it became a Membership site and CLOSELY monitored, it all changed for the better.
When it became monitored, it REALLY became a REAL AND GENUINE playwriting site. But in the last year or maybe 18 months or so, it has not really been monitored closely, except in name only. And I have found myself not checking in as much and have taken my theatre interests mostly elsewhere.
Since 2006 I have made 1,519 posts. That is a lot. I like helping people as I always have felt it is important to give payback. And the quality of people here is very, very good!!!!! I directly relate some of my plays winning prizes or getting productions directly to the critiques on this site.
However, my posts have diminished vastly, especially in the last six months or so because of the spammers and scammers. It is like wading through a forest.
Paul, you need to really do something about the monitoring of the site with a filter or god knows what. I have no idea what is out there to prevent it. It is YOUR site, not mine. But there must be a way to keep these screwballs out out.
I think you are losing a lot of good people who can contribute to this wonderful outlet you started. I am certain they check in, see the calamity and vanish.
Louise, thank you for mentioning this, as it has been a pet peeve of mine for well over a year/year and a half and it wears me out thinking of the terrific people we must have lost - including me for the most part - after 6 years of really contributing to the site. I always found it quite rewarding.
A scammer's post throws the whole system off. You can not follow a decent thread. You get and e-mail notice of a posting and you click on it, and it turns out it is an ad for an Asian Escort Service! Happens waaaaay to often.
Okay, nuff said. I am going to bed.
Thanks, again, Louise.
