There is an renaissance underway in short-form drama, but if you don't watch Cartoon Network you may be missing it.
The folks at Cartoon Network are reinventing and reinvigorating short-form performative narrative. My favorite is ADVENTURE TIME, but another cool and popular offering is REGULAR SHOW.
Both of these create complete stories that are told in 10-minutes. I am amazed at how much character and plot gets jammed into each episode.
Adventure Time in particular explores the hero's journey narrative. Finn is (presumably) the last human on Earth, and he is determined to be a hero alongside his best friend Jake the Dog. They live on a post-apocalypse world where magic has come returned after the Great Mushroom War. It's a fantastic place, created by some imaginative artists.
Give it a try. You might like what you see. And anyone interested in discovering just how much story can be jammed into a 10-minute frame will be astounded.
