I was watching the NT Live Broadcast of "Macbeth" yesterday, and thinking about a line that Macduff says to Macbeth in their confrontation at the end of the play:

" I have no words. My voice is in my sword."

Hah! What a cool fight scene line. I always listen for lines like that because I love writing fight scenes in my own scripts. Then I was thinking about it a little bit more, and I can't think of any modern plays that have those great sort of back-and-forth-lines fights that you see all over Shakespeare. You don't seem to see those sort of epic confrontations anymore in theater. Perhaps it's merely my own ignorance, perhaps I've not read enough, but I don't see it anymore. Maybe it's because we live in less violent times, but we still see those all over the place in film.

Sometimes I want to see a thought-provoking, edifying theater. But sometimes, I must admit, I want to see two stone-cold badasses hammer on each other with swords.

So I wonder, if anyone could point me to plays, written, say in the last 50 years or so, that have really cool fight scenes in them.

Maybe not in theatre, but here are a few in film.

Clint Eastwood. My fave is "Apologize to my mule."

Two that come to mind:

Raising Cane, by Stephen Cedars
The Continuing Adventures of John Blade, Super Spy, by Kyle Encinas

Neither is published, but I can get you in touch with the authors.
