I'll start with explaining a bit before asking..

I don't know where else to go for some answers. I have a bit of a screenwriting background. Two shorts of mine were produced and screened at some small venues. The film industry left me quite bitter. I've been thinking about writing a musical, but I can't really define what it is.

What I do know is that it'll be historical fiction. The theme will be gothic and the accompanying music would be very melancholic and depressive. Although, in my mind there are segments which will resonate like a musical, play and even opera. I don't believe I'm getting ahead of myself with writing something like because I see ways to be a minimalist about it, production-wise. It would also consist of a small cast.

Now, I've always worked remotely. I do have anxiety and days where I suffer from minor agoraphobia. It just spikes up worse on some days than others... So, my whole thing is I prefer to write and network online and find people who are interested in producing, etc.

This is my first time writing a musical/play. I'm thinking of fleshing it all out, including the lyrics and finding a composer that I can probably talk to over the phone and MAYBE meet up to discuss exactly how it should sound and feel, because that's the most vital part of my idea. Now, when it comes to finding people who may be looking for this kind of script, where is a good place to look? I'm also considering chipping in a little money help a bit with production and boost some morale.

I hope there's someone with experience who can either tell me I'm crazy and I need to pitch to people in person or shed some light on where to look.

I don't know if you're crazy or not but I suggest you take one step at a time

Write the libretto and see if it's good enough to attract and inspire a composer

Thanks, that it a wise idea and it's the fact that I've been jaded for a bit until just a few days ago. I feel like my energy and creativity is anxious to pour out.

Do you have a book to recommend me on writing musicals/plays?
