Mana:
Most summer mornings, a hoodie
tramps through the alley

beneath her open kitchen window as she fries
bacon in a skillet

for her stirring lover, nude beneath
a blue sheet.

In the glow of the digital clock, he reaches
for a first cigarette while above him

a yellowed child’s drawing of Jesus is taped
to the wall, lower left corner lifted by a light

breeze carrying the musk of bacon
out over a broken sidewalk.
