I've been kicking around community theater for decades. I decided that when I retire I'm going to write a play. So now, ten years later I have a few under my belt including one published by Stageplays. Being on this site has made a dream come true. I have a play published on this site that is going to be produced in the spring. So, naturally, I've got off of my butt and submitted another. LOL It took a few years to learn how to write. But having extensive experience on stage, plus directing a few over the years helped me considerably. I have no idea what I would do if I hadn't all of that, hands on, experience. I think this would be a good place to be if I was trying to find my way as a playwright. I've already read some advice given on this forum to a couple members and it was very coherent and in my opinion, spot on. Anyhow, good luck to you all.

Welcome, Puckster – and congratulations on the upcoming production. I also would agree that your years of experience in acting and directing would have undoubtedly been a great assist when you decided to turn your talents toward playwriting. I’m a firm believer that a background in treading the boards yourself is one of the very best – if not the best – form of training you can get as a playwright. Academic study is all well and good, but it can’t give you the knowledge and insight that you gain from actually being a living, breathing part of a theatrical production.

And now you’re about to have one of those of your own. Hope it’s a great success!
