We are happy to receive and consider unsolicited scripts from the UK and Ireland.
Scripts should be submitted in .doc or .pdf format via email to email@example.com and all submissions receive an acknowledgement.
We aim to respond to writers within three months. We are unable to provide feedback on all submissions but we aim to do so for those pieces of work with particular promise for development.
Please ensure your script meets our Submission Criteria below before submitting:
Scripts must be full-length (with a playing time of at least one hour)
We do not consider re-drafts of plays previously submitted to us, unless requested
We do not accept scripts written for film, television or radio, but we do accept versions and adaptations for the stage
We no longer accept handwritten or hard copy submissions
Musical submissions should provide a link to supporting materials via soundcloud.com or similar
If submitting multiple plays to us, please indicate an order in which you would like these to be read

Please note the opportunities we have in the main go to directors who have been making work professionally for at least 3-5 years, and who have built a reputation for themselves and their work. We are looking for people who make work in many and varied ways, right across the spectrum, from text based to devised work.
Most of the New Work Department’s work takes place by invitation, and we rarely take forward unsolicited proposals from artists we don’t already have an existing relationship with. The pathways towards beginning this conversation are through coverage of your work or through script submissions.

Verity Bargate Award
Our playwriting award, for the outsider goes in search of the best first time and emerging UK playwright. It’s got a couple of cracking prizes, very few rules, ace industry judges and it has helped launch the careers of some of Britain’s now most established writers. So get typing. You’ve only got until mid 2019 to write yours for the next round. It’ll be here before you know it.
Our nine month long programmes run October through June. There’s two classes, one for ages 16-26 and the other for ages 27+. You get to meet other emerging writers and artists as you develop and refine your writing voice through a three-draft process. There are also special masterclasses with guest artists. And discounts to our programmed shows. S’alright init.
Tony Craze Award
One of those gotta-be-in-it-to-win-it Awards, because this one’s for those in our Writers’ Labs. The winner’s play receives workshop development and a reading. Some have had their work produced by us, performed on our stages and received industry and critical acclaim (insert all the applause here).
Our Artistic Director invites six artists to immerse themselves in the life of Soho Theatre on a year-long attachment programme. Under commission and in residence they create new work for our stages. Alumni have gone on to become major influential names in theatre, film and TV.
Soho Theatre Bar. Which, if we don’t mind saying so, is a rather brilliant and supportive artistic hub in the heart of Soho. Many artists, writers and industry meet here. During the day you can also book the booths in advance for writing (just contact our Bar).
