Aside from setting, list of characters, etc., I want to include certain special directions and necessary information applicable to the whole play before the dialogue begins in my playscript. These essential directions and information run to about a page in length. What is the correct term for these special directions? As far as I can tell, the term "stage directions" seems to apply only too actors. I've looked at several playscripts, but I can't see an example of how to handle this formatting problem. At the moment I'm just putting the special directions and information in brackets, separated from everything else, and I'm not calling them anything. Can anyone enlighten me on this topic? Here's an example of what I'm referring to as "Special Directions".

(The two professional teams are played by older children. It doesn’t matter whether they’re boys or girls, but in keeping with the time (1948) they should all look like males. Colored sweaters can be used to distinguish between the two teams. They all wear gray wool socks to indicate skates.)

Thanks for your help. Don.

You could just put NOTE: The two professional teams are played by older children. Regardless of gender, they should look like boys.

You don't have to put anything about the sweaters or the grey socks, as that's a costume issue, and they might have a better way to deal with it.
