|YouthPLAYS Seeks Short Plays for Elementary School Anthology
YouthPLAYS, the publisher of plays for young actors and audiences, seeks short plays for a collection of plays for elementary students to perform. There is a great need for
material for this age group, so our hope is that it will be a popular collection.
Plays in the collection will also potentially be made available for individual purchase and licensing.
Elementary school includes a huge span of ages and interests (generally grades K-5,ages 5-11). However, this particular collection will focus on the lower end of the elementary age range (grades K-2—ages 5-8).
Cast: We are open to a variety of cast sizes and gender breakdowns, but keep in mind that teachers often need to accommodate a large classroom group, and so plays with
larger or flexible casts (in size and/or gender breakdown) are encouraged.
We welcome racial, ethnic and all other kinds of diversity.
Running Time: No longer than 15 minutes (and feel free to be closer to 10).
Genre: Open to all genres (no musicals).
How To Submit: Please submit through the main YouthPLAYS submission module at
https://www.youthplays.com/submit_play.php, and in the Author's
Note to the Publisher, mention that your submission is for the lower elementary school anthology.
Deadline: February 1, 2019 at 11:59 PM Pacific Time.
A Note About Writing for Elementary Performers: In terms of memorization and reading levels/skills, depending on age level and experience, you may want to consider word usage and difficulty of speeches. Please do not take this to mean that your ideas
or language should be any less exciting and/or complex. As an example of excellence in writing for this age group, we recommend What A Day! by Sandra Fenichel Asher:
