I thought just now
I'd drop you a letter

I'm down the country
in self-isolation.

How are you today?
I heard about you on the radio
Your streets are empty
shops all closed up

Camden quarter
Delahunty

Grafton quarter
Brown Thomas

Liberties quarter
I was reared there

Moore Street quarter
Arnotts

Only two butchers
over the Liffey
they've been open
a hundred years

Where have the flower sellers gone?

Pubs closed up
restaurants have gone
out of business
forever

Mrs. O'Brien's daughter
rushed to the Rotunda
her labour has begun

Over in Hollis Street
four babies were born
no father's allowed
to walk the floorboards
is it a girl or a boy?

The Coombe is very busy
a dozen delivered
just before noon

I remember when I was young
my mother giving birth
up the stairs
she wasn't one for
a hospital birth
she had all her childer
in her own bed

Come here till I tell you
did you hear about the deaths
over in the Mater?

St. James hospital
full of the virus

Temple Street
for sick children
they haven't got the measles

Ring a Ring a Rosy
