I am starting work on a play where I may be writing monologues spoken by real and famous people. I am unsure about the legal use of direct quotes printed in books, interviews, biographies or films. Seems like writers do this all the time but I cannot find anything that says this is legal.

Example: I saw this play: http://www.theannrichardsplay.com/ on Broadway (it was great) and I am sure she used lines that Ann Richards said in real life, articles, etc.

Any suggestions as to where I can get answers to these sorts questions? Googling did not help.

Much appreciation, Angela
