I write a lot of poetry. I think once I counted seven plays that actually started off as a poem. I bet you all write a lot of poetry.
Take one of your own poems, and see if you can work it into a play. Doesn't matter what length.
Have fun.
I've been really busy helping a friend with a shipment of stuff that's daunting....but I will read...just been a crazy week.

My new performance is based on a 93 verse poem I wrote about notions of missing... do come and see it if you are in London (UK)!

The dialogue in truly great plays is often poetic, isn't it. The characters would mean it as well as speak it, if it was a part of the storyline.
Shakespeare would be a great example of poetic playwriting.

I've often heard it say, that playwrights and poets are very close in terms of writing style.
I don't think I can ever quite explain why when I read a line I've written aloud, there are two too many beats, but there is a beautiful and necessary rhythm to playwriting.

Cool idea. I just posted a poem in "Critique my poem" which I've often thought was quite short-storyish. Now Im thinking maybe its a play........
Its a fine line that divides a play with poetic language from something too flowery and contrived. To be able to write a verse play or a poetic play and for the audience to almost not notice is a great skill if you can pull it off.

Cool.
Post it in the Feedback section. I'm going to read it this weekend if it kills me.
