Me Ma made a great coddle
she would send one of us
to the shops to get her a
bunch of parsley, thyme and a few onions

Around to the butchers
two pounds of sausages and rashers

She would sit at her kitchen table
peeling the potatoes for her
Dublin Coddle, she didn't do carrots
the recipe she got from her mother

The old pot she called her
coddle pot, she would carefully
put all the ingredients in and
placed her pot over her range

She would be one hundred years old
this year had she lived
she was born two months into the Irish civil war
which we are commemorating this year

We will be honouring her
in our kitchen during the year
sending her great grandkids down to the butchers
a pot of her coddle on the cooker

So picturesque. 'Coddle' means to 'pamper' here in the States. After reading and visualizing all your beautiful imagery I believe I'd rather have some of your coddle than be pampered today. Thank you.

Thank you, Edd
I would send you a virtual one if I knew how too
with a pint of plain to wash it down.
